ABOUT 1675 FOUNDATION

The 1675 Foundation is one of four Ware family foundations created in 2004 upon the termination of the Oxford Foundation, which was founded in 1947 by Marian S. and John H. Ware III.

The mission of the 1675 Foundation is to fortify the key elements of a healthy community: health; human services; education; the environment; and the arts; particularly as they relate to under-served and vulnerable populations. The Foundation makes grants in Chester County, Pennsylvania.

The Foundation supports the following kinds of efforts:

Health

  • Access to health care for uninsured and under-insured
  • Behavioral and mental health
  • Reproductive rights
  • Health research

Human Services

  • Food security
  • Protection of children and the elderly
  • Violence prevention and amelioration

Education

  • Opportunities for educational enrichment for under-served children
  • Early childhood education
  • After-school programs

Environment

  • Land and water conservation/preservation

The Arts

  • Arts institutions
  • Programs that provide access to and awareness of the arts

Occasionally, the Foundation makes grants outside of Chester County. These grants are initiated by the Foundation's Directors and are by invitation only.
